Project Management
The Software Project Management is committed to deliver high quality
products, meeting the User requirements, without compromising the
budget. The risk factors in a Software project are quite high, as
a project can fail due to a technical flaw, weak managerial control
or poor inter-personnel relations among the team members, or between
the project teams and the users.
Management Approach
The management approach is to ensure the Steering Committee fully
aware of the project status and to assure the timely solution of
problems. There will be regular meetings when the Steering Committee
is appraised of the progress. Any issues, which need to be elevated
to the Steering Committee, will also be discussed during these meetings.
Presently, the Steering Committee meetings will be on a monthly
schedule.
Project Plan
The project plans will be comprehensively showing the time schedule,
milestones and deliverables, resource plan and cost details.
The detailed plan will show the current schedule as well as the
base-line plan. Each task will be broken down into the lower level
of sub-tasks. The relation between the tasks or sub-tasks, i.e.,
the dependencies among the activities will be depicted in the plan.
The comparison between the current schedule and the base-line plan
will clearly indicate the overall schedule slippage, if any. The
tasks listed in the plan will cover the project team as well as
the user team activities. Apart from the basic tasks, the schedule
will provide time for the QA review and User Acceptance.
Project Status Reported to senior Management
The project status reports are the main media of communication between
the Project Manager and the senior management. The corporate planning
at any organization is based on the plans and status from all the
projects and departments in the organization.
Status reports to the Steering Committee
The project status report, indicating the physical progress, will
be submitted in the Steering Committee meetings. This will help
the users to carry out their responsibilities in synchronization
with the project team. The users have to get ready for accepting
the deliverables from the project phases or arrange resources to
train, implement the application etc.
Issue Management
Issue management deals with the proper handling of any issues brought
up during the project execution. These issues are formally raised,
documented and will be handled using an issue log, which is presented
and discussed during the steering committee meetings. Once an issue
is raised, the Project Manager reviews the details of the issue,
including the responsibility and the resolution due date. The issue
is then forwarded to the person(s) involved in the resolution. Once
an action is taken, the steering committee reviews the recommended
action and signs off the issue as closed and approved
